In the ever-evolving music industry, new talents continue to emerge, captivating audiences with their unique sounds and compelling stories. One such artist making waves is Eirik Kolstad, better known as kapri. At just 18 years old, this Norwegian singer, songwriter, and producer has been making his mark with his heartfelt lyrics, catchy melodies, and genre-blending style. I had the privilege of interviewing kapri recently to delve deeper into his musical journey and his latest release, "Only One."

Eirik Kolstad's passion for music ignited at the age of 14 when he picked up a guitar for the first time. This initial encounter sparked a love affair with music that led him to explore various genres and styles. As a teenager, Eirik delved into music production, where he released several tracks under the moniker "Part Of," collaborating with vocalists to create captivating EDM-infused compositions.

With a desire to express his own voice and vision, Eirik transitioned into his solo project, taking on the name kapri. Under this new persona, he writes, produces, and sings all his own songs, allowing him to fully explore his creative potential. Determined to carve a niche for himself in the music industry, kapri draws inspiration from his diverse musical influences while infusing his own unique style.

"Only One": A Personal and Catchy Pop-Rock Single:

kapri's latest single, "Only One," showcases his growth as an artist and his ability to craft relatable and infectious songs. Released on April 21st across major platforms, including Spotify, iTunes, and YouTube, "Only One" tells the story of a man who grapples with mistakes in his relationship. The song captures the vulnerability of feeling lost without someone you love, and the yearning to be recognized as "the only one" for them. With its radio-friendly pop-rock sound and influences from artists like Alexander 23 and Jeremy Zucker, "Only One" is set to captivate listeners and resonate with their own experiences.

kapri's music aims to connect with listeners on a deeply emotional level. By exploring themes of self-discovery, loss, and regret, his lyrics mirror the universal experiences of making mistakes and seeking personal growth. With heartfelt sincerity and a relatable sound, kapri invites audiences to embark on a journey of introspection and self-realisation.

Growing up in the small city of Kristiansand, Norway, kapri draws inspiration from a global network of artists rather than a local music scene. He seamlessly blends catchy melodies, unique production, and experimentation with different genres to create a captivating sonic landscape. With upcoming projects in the pipeline, kapri promises to push creative boundaries further and continue evolving his sound.

I was lucky enough to chat recently to kapri about his latest release.

Interview with Jack - Tilleys Music Guidance

Can you tell us about your musical background and how you got into writing, producing, and singing your own songs?

My musical journey began when I was 12 years old and picked up a guitar for the first time. It was then that I discovered my love for music and began exploring different genres and styles. When I was 13-14 years old, I downloaded music production software on my mom's laptop and started experimenting with it. I spent hours every day learning more about the program and honing my skills. This eventually became my biggest passion.

During my early teens, I was heavily into EDM and started releasing tracks under the artist name "Part Of". I produced the music while other artists provided the vocals. Some of these songs did well on platforms like YouTube and Spotify, which was really exciting for me.

As I got older, I started exploring music production where I sang and wrote my own songs. This led me to start a new project as a solo artist under the name "kapri". Now, I write, produce and sing my own music, which has been an incredible experience.

Overall, my musical background has been a journey of self-discovery and growth.

Your music has been described as having a unique sound that blends different genres. Can you talk about how you developed your style and who your musical influences are?

My style has definitely evolved over time, but it all started when I began producing EDM music. Through this, I learned various production techniques that I then blended with organic sounds to create my own sound.

In terms of my musical influences, I am deeply inspired by artists such as EDEN, Jeremy Zucker, Bon Iver, brakence, and Aries. These are artists I really look up to and have been a great source of inspiration for me. They have all influenced my music in different ways, from their unique sounds and production techniques to their songwriting and lyricism.

Overall, I think my style is a reflection of my diverse musical influences and my own personal growth as an artist. I'm constantly experimenting with new sounds and techniques to keep evolving my style and creating music that is authentic to who I am as an artist.

How do you approach the songwriting process? Do you start with lyrics, melody, or a specific sound or idea in mind?

When I start a new song I first come up with a melody on my guitar and improvise some vocal melodies on top of the guitar play. When I feel like an idea for a song has potential, I will start to produce the music and write the lyrics.

Can you discuss any challenges you've faced as a young artist in the industry, and how you've overcome them?

Yeah! Some challenges I faced is the financial aspect of being an artist. As a young artist, I didn't have a lot of resources to invest in my craft. To overcome this challenge, I started looking for part-time work and that allowed me to earn some income while still dedicating time to my artwork.

Finally, I struggled with self-doubt and the fear of not being good enough. To overcome this challenge, I sought out feedback from other artists and industry professionals, which helped me identify areas of strength and areas where I could improve.

Your latest release has received a lot of attention. How do you feel about the response so far?

I love to get attention for the music I give out. The attention I get from music motivates me to make more music and get better.

What message do you hope to convey through your music, and how do you want your listeners to connect with your work?

I like to explore themes of self-discovery, loss, and regret. I am trying to connect with listeners by exploring universal themes of self-discovery and the human experience of making mistakes and trying to move forward.

How have your experiences growing up in Kristiansand influenced your music?

Kristiansand is a small city without a big network of musicians. I get most of my inspiration from listening to other artists all over the world.

What can your audience expect from your upcoming projects in terms of creative exploration?

They can expect catchy melodies, unique production, and an exploration of different genres.

Can you talk about any upcoming collaborations or projects you have in the works?

I have some new songs in the making which will show you more of who I am as an artist.

Lastly, what advice would you give to other young artists who are just starting out in the music industry?

Try to reach out to other musicians that share the same passion as you. Ask others for feedback that can help you improve.

Thank you for taking time to sit and chat about your exciting release.

kapri's musical journey is a testament to the power of determination and self-expression.
