I recently caught up with Jack Gill and The Overlook to talk about their start, influences and their music.

How does it feel to have your music finally out there for the world to hear?

It feels good man, especially with the last few releases (Devil Bar Blues, People Are Strange & Follow Me) as we feel they are truly representative of the bands sound!

Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind your music? What themes or experiences influence the writing process?

I tend to find inspiration from my favourite artists, I listen to what they write about and how they do it and then put it into whatever it is I’m currently writing about.

Our latest release is off the upcoming self titled EP and is based around us being stuck in a hotel. We want to break free and leave but something keeps on pulling us back. Each track off the EP touches on a specific part of the story, it’s pretty cool!

As a band, how would you describe your sound to someone who has never heard your music before?

It’s tough to put a name on it, I’d say it’s a combination of blues/heavy/garage rock. The beauty of the band is that we have a wide range of influences and that comes together nicely to make our sound what it is.

How did you all come together to form this band? Did you have any previous musical experience before joining forces?

I used to play solo shows, mostly acoustic and I met Sam through a mutual friend. He is also the bands producer and we struck up a partnership. After lockdown hit, I had a bit more time to think about what I wanted to do musically, so I decided to start a band! Charlie and and jay soon followed and we’ve been making music ever since.

Are there any particular artists or bands that have influenced your music? How have they inspired your sound?

For me - Beatles, Zepplin, ACDC. I listen to these guys and they make me want to be in a band and make music! The guys in the band all have their own tastes ranging from the doors to RHCP as well, and I think it all combines and influences our sound.

What can fans expect from your future releases? Will your sound evolve or stay true to what we hear?

If you check out my Spotify you’ll see the last few releases have featured the overlook (my band) and there has been an evolving sound with each release so we are always looking to improve things in some way. I think where we are at now with it is the sweet-spot, I reckon we have a distinctive sound that comes across as authentic and original .. for me that’s the most important thing.

What do you hope listeners take away from your music, especially as they listen to your single for the first time?

When I listen to my favourite artists/bands, I make an emotive connection. Whether that be happy, sad, excited etc .. If listeners can experience that when they listen to us, I’ll be a very happy guy!

In Jack Gill and The Overlook, we witness the convergence of blues, heavy, and garage rock into a sonic force that demands attention. Their fusion of influences, from the rock icons of the past to their own unique sound, creates an explosive experience. With their infectious energy and unyielding passion, this Liverpool band is set to redefine the rock genre. Jack Gill and The Overlook are here to remind.
